After graduating from university, from April 1978, worked as a social worker at the psychiatric department of a general hospital in Hidaka, Hokkaido.
Participated in the establishment of "Urakawa Bethel House" (April 1984, now a social welfare corporation) as a base for community activities with people with mental disorders. He is working to disseminate research on people with disabilities both in Japan and overseas.

After graduating from the University of Tokyo School of Medicine, worked at the Department of Pediatrics at Chiba Nishi Hospital and the Department of Pediatric Cardiology at Saitama Medical University
After working as a doctoral student at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine, he is currently an associate professor at the University of Tokyo's Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology and a pediatrician. Director of the Japanese Society for Developmental Neuroscience. Specializes in pediatrics and research on people with disabilities.
